Target Audience
This unit applies to individuals working in collection centres‚ hospitals, in other health care environments and workplaces where drugs of abuse testing takes place.
 
Learning Outcomes
  • Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment issued on successful completion
Learning Methods
Learning consists of a short online pre-training knowledge assessment and an interactive hands-on training day covering three testing methods:
  • breath alcohol testing
  • oral fluid - saliva testing
  • urine testing

  • Hands-on breath alcohol, urine and oral fluid drug testing
  • Familiarity of Australian Standards, Legislation and Regulations
  • Impacts, effects and symptoms of drugs and alcohol
  • Privacy issues and risk assessment including safety and PPE
  • Infection control, waste management
  • Consent Forms, Chain of Custody and the legal implications
  • Confirm collection requirements
  • Prepare for collection procedure
  • Collect specimen
  • Follow post collection procedures
  • Basic conflict resolution skills
